Sleep Helper

During night, the chill winter breeze trying to push in through the partially closed windows, brings in also the melody being played some where around. The ears become more attentive and try to catch the tune so as to remember it for ever while the eyes struggle to keep the lids open, before long, sleep reigns over. Tales of those days, are countless to let know how actual the music was and how factual the life was. ‘Dil to hai Dil’ performed by Lata is from the film ‘Mukaddar ka Sikandar’ released in 1978. With beautiful lyrics penned by Anjaan , this melody is composed by Kalyanji Anandhji.

Classic song of 70's

In a heartless society, one with a heart yearns for humanity. There is ruthlessness all around and helplessness comes over, Laila pleading the morons to unleash Majnu who cannot get Laila out of his mind and is roaming around for her love. This classic song from the movie Laila Majnu released in the year 1976, is composed by Jaidev and Madanmohan. With beautiful lyrics of Sahir Ludhiyanvi...when he says 'lo ab pathar uthao jamane ke khudaon'... anything said about this personality seems to be less.Splendid voice of Lata touches the hearts. This song is cherished by the lovers of mercy.

The Real Geniuses

‘Genius’ is the word that is being used generously these days I believe.
When people are so thankful to someone serving them ‘baby meals’ and are adding all available superlatives to their names, I wonder what could be offered to some one who served them ‘full meals’.
During those days, when a soundtrack was released, it was a feast to everyone. I say, it was a golden period and should be remembered and appreciated for many years to come. Still remember the evening when we got the LP of ‘Noorie’ from the audio shop and played it for 'n' number of times. ‘Noorie’ with Khayyamji’s music was released in the year 1979. Everyone was pulled towards Khayyam’s 'Kamaal'. He followed a different style and had never compromised with melody. The title song ‘Noorie-Noorie’ sung by Nitin Mukesh and Lata mangeshkar was very popular. I still remember that I refused to watch the movie only because the story had a tragic ending. ‘Noorie’ also had ‘chori chori koyi aaye’, a solo by Lata. The beautiful lyrics are penned by Jan Nissar Akhtar and Naqah Layalpuri.
Excellent tabla work,Just love the rhythm patterns.

Relaxwell!

Remembering a navaratri eve when the kids of the colony performed this song. Their tender voices are still ringing in the ears. The song from ‘Kala Pathar’ was composed by Rajesh Roshan and performed by Lata and Rafi. With all the natural sounds, it surely lets us lighten up.  Impressive lyrics are  by Sahir Ludianvi. It was the most wanted song.  ‘Kala Pathar’ also had another popular song called ‘Ek rastha hai jindagi’. Now you enjoy ....

Pleasure hunt!

Those were the days when ‘Mausam was always Deewana’ with songs like this. Every actor used to ensure that the music in his movie remained melodious. The meaning of music itself was melody in those days. This peppy number from the movie ‘Warrant’ was the favorite of many. Waiting for this song in ‘Chitrahaar’ was really  enjoyable. With the combination of so many natural instruments, the  prelude and the interludes sound amazing. Added to the beauty is Kishore Kumar’s effortless singing. Music composed by R.D.Burman and lyrics beautifully penned by Anand Bhakshi, this film was released in 1975.

Melody Time

When I first looked at you
I thought you were sitting like a ball on the wall
When I saw your moving hands
I enjoyed staring at you without knowing your significance
You were helpful to me in practising 123
and When I learnt multiples of five
I could know what is 'Time'
When I saw you running fast
I realised how important you are
I tried to get you slow
But you politely said 'NO'

'Time' is the most precious gift for anyone on this earth. 'Samay tu dheere dheere chal' is a song with heavily loaded lyrics by Bharat Vyas and Rajkavi Tulsi  from the film 'Karm' released in 1977. Composed by R.D. Burman and performed by Asha and Kishore, it remains the favourite till date.

Fantastic Indeed!

You remember or not, this song is verywell remembered by me. With simple yet stunning orchestration, this tune attraced many in those days. Jaidev is one of the composers whose usage of various instruments for composing  is unique. The 'guitars', 'violins' , 'drum's, and 'trumpet' in interludes is a feast to the ears.
Written by 'Gulzar' and performed smoothly by Runa laila. Get immeresed in organic music once again!

Instance of Purity!

The days when treating myself with these melodies in the morning and evening was a practice, waiting for this song in radio ceylon’s Hindi service ‘aap hi ke geet’ was joyful and is still cherished. I could treasure this eternal gift in my little mind after savouring it's beauty a number of times.
Just listen to the opening piece and the interludes... the flute..the sitar...bulbul.. awesome work... and Lata's humming...there are no words to describe her performance. Can there be anything more natural than this. Lyrics beautifully written by Jaan Nissar Akhtar and tune wonderfully composed by Jaidev who also was the assistant for the famous composers like S.D Burman and Madan Mohan, this immortal melody is from the movie 'Prem Parbat'.
